Arrow of God

Set in the 1920s among the Igbo people of eastern Nigeria, Arrow of God is Achebe’s finest artistic achievement. Ezeulu, the chief priest of the god Ulu, finds his authority challenged from both within his community and by the encroaching colonial administration. His fateful decision to send his son to study with the missionaries leads to a tragic outcome for his people. Achebe writes with extraordinary precision about power, faith, and the inevitable conflicts that arise when two worlds collide. Widely considered one of the greatest novels in the African literary tradition.
